We have been very busy in the Reading Center!  In the month of January, we talked about nonfiction books.  We read nonfiction books, discussed text features found in these books and learned about the Dewey Decimal System.  At the end of the month the students were SO excited to go to the Book Fair.  I was proud of the students as they figured out how to best spend their money.  Many lessons were learned about the worth of a dollar and how to make decisions!

In the month of February, we will be moving on with a specific focus on a nonfiction portion of the library…..Biographies!  We will learn about the features that these books include.  We will also read about many fascinating people.  I have encouraged the students to find a “Who Was…?” book on an individual that they have an interest in.  We will look at a few of these books in the Reading Center as well.  We will focus on the lives of Thomas Jefferson, John F. Kennedy, Jesse Owens, Harriet Tubman and many more! We will have some fun activities that accompany these books.

Please continue to talk to your child about what they are reading.  Also, remind your child to return or renew their books each week.  Thank you!
