Music is in the air and great things are happening in the Music department at Sacred Heart!

January was a great month while 4th and 5th prepared for a wonderful Day of Giving Red Bag Lunch Concert! Thank you to everyone who supported our school and the music program as we performed. Thank you to Mr. DiGregorio for a wonderful strings display of talent! Bravo everyone!

In February, students in the Tiny Hearts, ECE, and Pre-K will explore classical music through listening experiences using the parachute, learning “love” songs that show our love for Jesus and Jesus’ love for us, and carrying over our blues/jazz theme doing a Valentine Boogie!

K-2 will continue to focus on quarter and eighth notes while using hearts to write small musical lines and writing them on pitches. We will then learn to play them on the xylophone!

In grades 3-5 students are using a Nearpod on the iPad to learn melody and rhythmic notation. Nearpod is an online tool, set with lessons on different topics. In this case it breaks down how to create melodies, and the differences between high and low, what sounds good together. Students will be creating their own melodies using a Melody Maker and also writing their own rhythms. These are skills they will need to start to play dulcimer in (4th) and bucket drumming in (5th)

***New warm-ups include THAY, THAH,THOO and VEE, ZEE,VEE, ZEE VEE- each used to create more space in the mouth for more volume and scale increments.

We will continue to practice for Mass as we have 2B, 1B,1C, (both leading their first Mass!) and 4A leading us in Ash Wednesday Mass. We will start to practice Lenten music as our Gospel Acclamation changes to Praise to you Lord, Jesus Christ, King of endless glory.

****CHOIR***** If interested Choir will start back up Tuesday, February 25 at 3PM-4PM in Music Room. We will start rehearsing for Arts Extravaganza which is April 28 at 6PM.

Many blessings,

Mrs. Haas
