Hi everyone! This week we are going to move on from fairy tales and learn about a different kind of story – fables. Like fairy tales, fables are old stories. In fact, some stories are often recognized as being both a fairy tale and fable. For example, in my hunt for good stories to share with you, I often find that the story The Ugly Duckling is recognized  as both.

There are some obvious differences in fairy tales and fables. First, fables are often shorter stories. Second, the characters are almost always talking animals in a natural, outdoor setting. Last, there is always a moral to the story when reading a fable. In fact, the moral is often pointed out at the end of the story in a direct way. Watch this video to learn about the elements of a fable and to see an example of a fable.
