November in Music Class!

First, I have to say what a fantastic job everyone did for the Halloween Sing and Dance Along in the gym- due to rain. We didn’t let the weather dampen our time together as we danced to the Thriller and sang spooky songs. All the students did a GREAT job and looked ‘spooktacular!’

It is the busiest time of the year in Music! We start to prepare for our Christmas program and holiday gatherings to show our loved ones what we have learned and just how special they are to us!

In Tiny Hearts, ECE, and Pre-K we will be studying melody and how the notes go up and down and how are voices have to follow those notes. Students will use fall/Thanksgiving theme songs and manipulatives to grasp these concepts. We will continue with dancing and playing simple percussion instruments as well.

In Kindergarten, they will start to read music off of a music sheet for a simple tune “Leaves are Falling All Around ” to play on the xylophone. This will enhance the melody that they have learned and take it one step further than what the younger students are doing.

1st-3rd grade will continue to prepare for Friday Mass learning new songs as needed and practicing for their Christmas Program. We will be doing the Nativity once again this year and each grade will work on individual instruments such as handbells, hand drums, and handchimes.

4th Grade is studying American Music in the month of November to give thanks to our beautiful country. They are doing Listening guides where they have to pay close attention to instruments, singers, tempo, and dynamics within the pieces.

5th grade is continuing to work on playing the dulcimer. Each class is working on Ode to Joy, but then each individual class will play an Advent/Christmas song to be performed on Monday, Dec. 9 following our mass of the Immaculate Conception in the Basilica.

It is always a busy time in music as we continue to learn new music, composers, and instruments we find our confidence in playing and singing as well. It seems as though the students are really enjoying the new ways to see music in their lives.

Wishing you all a Happy Thanksgiving!

Many blessings,

Mrs. Haas
