Happy Fall! It is the awaited time that all students get excited about during the month of October…Halloween. In Music class we ALL learn Halloween songs :Stir the Brew, Moans and Groans and Skeleton Bones, and a dance “Thriller!” this year! All will be age appropriate learning dance moves and how to count each beat in moves.

In Tiny Hearts, ECE, and Pre-K students will continue to learn steady beat using shakers, sticks, and triangle instruments. Pre-K is working on the xylophones to the poem Pumpkin Pumpkin.

Kindergarten is playing the bells for their Christopher Columbus program. We will use Yankee Doodle, and America the Beautiful to showcase our listening, playing, and watching the conductor skills. Students will also continue Lines and Spaces and dynamic terms: forte, piano, mezzo forte, mezzo piano.

1st Grade will continue steady beat and learning lines and spaces through fall activities. We are also learning a Marian song for mass (For the month of the Rosary) that has taken time to learn how hymns are printed and how to read the music through a hymnal.

2nd and 3rd Grade will continue with solfege and reading music on lines and spaces. 3rd grade will start to read Handchime music for their Christmas program and one of the pieces we will be able to showcase during Advent.

4th grade will practice steady beat and rhythm for our Halloween parade and continue note reading to work to playing the xylophone.

5th grade will begin working on the dulcimer, strumming and note reading playing songs such as Joyful Joyful, and My Country Tis of Thee.

The choir that meets after school on Tuesdays will be performing Oct. 17 at 11:30 Mass at Blessed Sacrament and also at their luncheon to follow.

The next round of choir (4th and 5th graders) will meet starting Tuesday, November 5 from 3-4 PM with each session costing $10. We will go caroling for residents at Edgewood Summit. More details to be sent home.

Have a Faboo-lous October!
