September Music

September Music

Welcome to music at SHGS for 2018-2019 school year! I am Renae Haas, and I am thrilled to be the new music teacher! It has been a pleasure to work with the students these last couple of weeks!

**The students did a superb job on the first All Schools Mass. We practiced very hard with such a short amount of time and our efforts surely showed! Thank you for your support and kind words!

Our classes will consist of preparing for our weekly liturgies musically and then allowing time for activities that focus on a musical concept. We will be exploring a lot of musical concepts throughout the year such as singing, rhythm and movement, dynamics, instruments, composers, music families, note and staff recognition, and composing.

In the next coming weeks, we will continue to review our procedures and focus on steady beat, note and staff recognition, and start to play instruments.

  • ECE and Pre-K will sing songs, use simple instruments (rhythm sticks, claves, and shakers) to practice steady beat, and dance!
  • K-5 will be focusing on singing and blending within the group, using Magic Feet terms to learn about the notes and use hand drums and rhythm sticks to practice rhythms. Grades 3-5 will use xylophones to practice steady beat and learn how to read music. Students will also learn a clapping game to focus on the beat!

We will be working very quickly in music as we have a lot to get through in such a short amount of time. My goal is for them to be able to use their talents, whether it be playing an instrument, singing, or writing music. I look forward to a wonderful school year and seeing/meeting you all.

Many blessings,

Mrs. Haas
