As we welcome in a new month we also are welcoming in new concepts, songs, instruments, and our new Bishop Mark Brennan!

It is great to be back in the swing of music classes at Sacred Heart for the 2019-20 school year! This year we will be reviewing concepts we learned last year and building upon skills that we acquired as well as new ones yet to be discovered!

In the Tiny Hearts, ECE, Pre-K classes we will be working on movement songs, story songs, and steady beat with instruments.

Kindergarten will work on songs that are faith forming and age appropriate. We will also focus on steady beat and naming the lines and spaces with fun games and activities. E,G,B,D,F for lines and FACE for the spaces on the treble clef.

1st grade will learn new pieces for mass each week as they become more familiar with procedures for going to mass. They will also start a unit on Peter and the Wolf for steady beat exercises, and listening to music. The lines and spaces will be a familiar review for all students.

2nd and 3rd grade will begin reading music and ear training to DO, RE, MI plus learning Solfege through sign language. 3rd grade will start to learn the handchimes once we brush up our note reading skills.

4th and 5th grade will also fine tune their note reading skills, work on steady beat using hand clap games and new cup songs to make learning the beat fun! 5th grade will be introduced to new dulcimers that are added to our collection from generous donors! Thank you to our donors who appreciate the arts in our schools and keeping them alive and thriving!

Like always, students will prepare for each Friday liturgy and the selected class will lead us in music each week. We will be learning new music each week and singing some of our familiar songs as well. It will be a great year in Music at SHGS! Any questions please feel free to e-mail me throughout the year rhaas@sacredheartgradeschool.org

Be on the look out for a flyer to go home about choir grades 4th and 5th starting on Sept. 17 from 3-4PM afterschool! We will run 4 week sessions and perform for students, parents, and the community throughout the year!

All the best,

Mrs. Haas
