Where Will Reading Take You?  That is the question we are exploring this month in the Reading Center.  We will specifically be learning about how the Setting of a story can set the tone for an entire book.  In the first few pages of a book, the author of a story often  presents the reader with a vivid description of where and when the story takes place.  The reader can at that point be drawn in to the story or decide to look elsewhere for a book that suits his/her taste. This month we will be exploring many titles that have a strong introduction of exciting settings.  A Wrinkle in Time, My Side of the Mountain and No Talking are a few books we will discuss with grades 3-5.  For K-2 we will explore Lilly’s Purple Plastic Purse, Black Cat and Peter Rabbit. At the end of the month, students will write and illustrate the Setting of where and when their ideal story would take place if they were writing a book. It should be a fun month.

In the first couple weeks of school we discussed the importance of taking good care of Reading Center books and returning them each week.  Please be mindful of the day your child has Reading Center as a class and help them remember to return their books.  Thank You!!
