Why Sacred Heart Grade School?

A rigorous, well-rounded curriculum encourages critical thinking, creativity, and a lifelong love of learning. High expectations and meaningful learning experiences prepare students for success in middle school, high school and beyond.

Our intentionally small class sizes allow teachers to know each child personally, provide individualized instruction, and create a more engaging, supportive learning environment. Students receive the attention they need to grow academically and socially.

Sacred Heart embraces students from many religious, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds. With students from many backgrounds, we foster an inclusive environment where all faith traditions are respected and valued.

Grounded in Christian values, our school emphasizes character, compassion, integrity, and service. Students learn to practice these virtues in both their daily interactions and their academic pursuits.

Our teachers and support staff are deeply dedicated to nurturing the whole child. Their partnership with families creates a warm, collaborative atmosphere in which students feel supported and motivated.

Students learn in a secure, nurturing setting that promotes confidence, responsibility, and emotional well-being.

Located in the heart of Charleston, Sacred Heart draws families from across a six-county region, creating a dynamic and connected school community with rich opportunities for engagement.

Enrichment programs, extracurricular activities, leadership development, and service opportunities help students discover their interests, build new skills, and grow into well-rounded individuals.

Niki Kurten , Principal

Welcome to our school community!

At Sacred Heart Grade School, we believe that every child is a precious gift from God, created with unique talents, abilities, and a purpose all their own. Our mission is to nurture these gifts by providing a safe, loving environment where faith, academics, and character grow hand in hand.

Each day, we work to form students who not only excel in the classroom, but who also learn to live the Gospel message through kindness, service, and compassion. With dedicated teachers, supportive families, and a vibrant parish connection, our students experience a true sense of belonging and joy in learning.

We are blessed to partner with parents—the first educators in the faith—as we guide children to become confident learners and disciples of Christ. Whether you are a long-standing member of our school family or a new visitor exploring what we offer, I invite you to discover the warmth, excellence, and faith-filled spirit that define our community.

Thank you for taking the time to learn more about us. We look forward to welcoming you into our school family.

Blessings,
Niki Kurten

Our Mission

In the context of a Catholic community, Sacred Heart Grade School strives to help students fulfill the potential of their God given talents and abilities by guiding them to develop themselves spiritually, intellectually, physically, emotionally, aesthetically, and socially.  Our faculty, parents, and students work together to develop a community of shared values based on the respect and concern for self and others while at the same time encouraging students to use their gifts and values to better the world in which they live.
