Physical Education 3-30

Happy Monday! I am including a sheet for AMRAP,  which means; As Many Reps as Possible.  So you would do all these exercises for 5 minutes.  If that seems too long do  3 minutes rest and do it again.

March Physical Education

March Madness came early to the Sacred Heart playground.  The second, third, fourth and fifth graders competed in a 3 v. 3 basketball tournament during recess. Each team  consisted of six to eight players and each team played the entire recess rotating players.

February and the beginning of March we will be talking about Hockey.  The students will learn the basic rules and skills of the greatest game on ice.  Stick handling, passing and shooting. The most important lesson in Hockey is safety at the end of the students will participate in a small sided game which they will learn new terms such as faceoff, power play and penalty box.

Finally, and as always, we will supplement our March activities with the students with games that incorporate fitness and fun.

Have a Mad March!

Physical Education February

February News

Rain, Rain, go away!  During the month of February we will be engaging in several sports in and outside the Sacred Heart gym.  During recess, we are having a Basketball Tournament. I have posted the teams in the gym and your child’s teacher will also have the teams and schedule posted in their classrooms.   Gym class will be filled with hockey sticks and pucks. Each class will learn dribbling, stick handling, passing and shooting the hockey puck. Of course the rules of Hockey will be explained.

I have decided not to do Jump Rope for Heart for Valentines Day this year.  However, we will continue to work on jumping rope and challenging that skill with new games with the jump rope, such as, Thunder Stick, long jump rope and partner jumping.

As part of our 2020 standard gym protocol, we will be exercising using the number 20 as our base number to increase our fitness levels.

PLEASE…  Put your name in your jackets and sweaters.  I have several jackets in the gym with NO Name.
