Thursday, May 21, Wear beach & pool clothes to show you’re ready for summertime fun-in-the-sun.

1.  (Use items in your E-Day Bag). Draw a picture of your favorite part of today’s book in your Composition Book and dictate a sentence about it to your parent (who can write it next to your picture).  Allow children to mimic your writing, if interested.
2.  Beach Ball Toss
Inflate a beach ball and print uppercase letters all over it with a permanent marker.
Gather everyone into a circle and someone tosses the ball.
Whoever catches it must shout out the letter which their right thumb  lands on.  Now toss to another and continue playing.
3.  “DEAR” time (drop everything and read) 
Gather awesome  beach and ocean life and other summertime books to read.
Tuck a beach towel under an umbrella somewhere fun and enjoy some quiet reading time.
 
Math
1.  Count as high as you can and identify the foam numerals from 1-10 in your E-Day Bag.
2.  Sea Shell Fun
Use your sea shell collection
-count them and lay shells beside the matching foam number from E-day bag
-sort them into groups of small, medium and large.
3.  Beach Sand Cloud Dough
Mix well:
1 cup flour
1 cup sand
4 tablespoons oil-baby, vegetable or coconut
Build sand castles like you’re at the beach!
Arts/Sciences
1.  Egg Carton Ocean
Paint the inside of a cardboard egg carton blue like the ocean.  Let dry.  Paint glitter glue overtop to sparkle like the sea.  Let dry.
Assemble an ocean scene to play with inside the egg crate.  You may glue down some items and leave others out to be handled.
Materials:
Tube of fun ocean animals, plastic gems, pebbles, tissue paper, seashells, seaweed & coral cut from colored foam.
Have fun playing with your ocean side scene!

Wednesday, May 20, Wear Rainbow Colors to represent hope for beauty after the storm (the Covid storm).

2.  Rainbow Names
Tear rainbow colors of paper into small pieces and place in 6 stacks-one for each color of the rainbow.  Use a name card from your E-day bag, or print it largely yourself.  Glue red pieces around the 1st letter of your name, orange around 2nd letter, yellow around 3rd, etc…  Repeat rainbow colors if your name is very long.
Math
1.  Count as high as you can and identify the foam numerals from 1-10 in your E-Day Bag.
2.  Fruit Loop Rainbow
Draw a rainbow outline with crayons-red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple.  Give your child a bowl of fruit loops and have them sort the cereal colors and lay those around the rainbow outline.
3.  Rainbow Paper Chain
Cut rainbow colored paper strips 6” x 1” and let your child glue them in rainbow order.  Make the chain however long you’d like.
Count the number of links on your chain.
Arts/Sciences
1.  Eat the Rainbow!
Add assorted sliced fruits/veggies on a plate for a healthy & colorful snack.
2.  Paper Towel “Rainbow” Experiment
Materials:  markers, 2 glasses full of water, paper towels
Use a long rectangle strip of paper towel and use markers to
shade in both ends (3” from end and stop) in rainbow rows.
Draw 3” rainbow on left/middle part remains white/3” rainbow on right.
Place 2 glasses of water 6 inches apart and place one end of paper towel in each glass and watch your rainbow rows travel to make one gigantic rainbow!

2.  Cold S’mores 
(no bake-you be the chef!)
 
Ingredients:
Mix in bowl-
2 cups chocolate chips
2 cups Cool Whip, thawed
2 cups marshmallows
1 sleeve graham crackers, broken in half
Place g. crackers on pieces of Reynolds wrap and add a good dollop of s’mores mixture.  Place another graham on top, wrap up, and freeze 40 minutes – 1 hour.
Enjoy with a friend.
 
 
 
Arts/Sciences
1.  Construction Zone Sensory Play 
‘Crunchy Box’ (clean out your pantry while your child plays)
Use an empty storage bin and start dumping in stale crunchy food that was headed for the trash-noodles, croutons, cereals, crackers, etc…Add some play hammers and let your child go at it.
2.  Construction Zone
Use a sandbox for play or add sand, construction vehicles, mini street signs, rocks…to a bin.  Use goggles, toolbox, hard hat, cones, a level, yellow tape, etc…to add more fun to your play.
3.  Tractor Paint
Dip a tractor’s wheels in paint and roll it across a paper making tire tracks like a farmer would in the field.

Monday, May 18, Wear Yellow today to remember our bright & cheery preschool classroom full of beautiful children.

2.  Colorful Yellow Collage
Talk about the word yellow and the sound you hear at the beginning of it.  Cut a large Y from yellow construction paper and glue yellow things on it.  You could use magazine pictures, or  yellow things like buttons, feathers, Pom poms, dandelions, etc…or things that begin with the sound of the letter Y like pieces of yarn.
Math
1.  Count as high as you can and identify the foam numerals from 1-10 in your E-Day Bag.
2.  Measure Your Height # 2
Use a piece of yarn to measure your height. Write today’s date and your height on a piece of masking tape and fold it around the yarn so the yarn is tucked inside of it.  Save this yarn.  You may tape it to the back of the 3D flower from earlier in the year which you will get in your keepsake bag.
We did this in August and displayed the flowers in the hallway with the yarn as the flower stems.  We compared the children’s heights.  Once you receive your 3D flower, you can see how much your child has physically grown this school year, from August to May.  Just as beautiful flowers grow.  Your 3 or 4 year old has also grown so much spiritually, socially & emotionally with our ECE 1 Class at Sacred ❤️!
Arts/Sciences
1.  Handprint Sunshine
Dip your child’s hand in yellow paint and stamp it around repeatedly in a large circle with fingers facing out and palms in to the center to shape a sun.
Caption-You Are My Sunshine, My Only Sunshine
2.  DIY Kool-Aid Puffy Paint  (blue + yellow = green experiment)
Bluepaint-1/4 cup flour, one packet blue Kool-Aid, 4 tablespoons warm water
Yellow paint- same as above, but with lemonade Koop-Aid
Put a little spot of each paint on white paper.
Ask what color they think they’ll become when they are mixed together?
Use a paint brush to find out the new color and have fun painting with these yummy smelling paints!

2.  ABC Go Fish!
Cut a piece of paper into squares.  Write one letter on each square.  The first game you can use the letters in your child’s name.   Make 2 of each letter-2 green ‘a’ cards, 2 blue ‘z’ cards…use a different color for each set of letters.  Shuffle cards and deal 3 cards to your preschooler and 3 to yourself.  Take turns asking do you have a ?  And select a card you have in your hand.  If you find a pair, lay them down.  The game is done when all the cards are paired up.
3.  Book Talk
How do you think the other fish felt when Rainbow Fish wouldn’t play with them?  …when Rainbow Fish shared with the others?
What could we share with our friends?
Math
1.  Count as high as you can and identify the foam numerals from 1-10 in your E-Day Bag.
2.  Color Sorting
Use a cupcake tin and sort rainbow colored goldfish in the sections.  Count the number of each color goldfish.
Arts/Sciences
1.  Fish Pond Snack
Tint icing blue and spread on a round ritz cracker.  Stand goldfish up in the blue icing, like they are ‘swimming’ in a pond.  Enjoy.
2.  The Rainbow Fish
Materials:
Paper plate, wiggle eye, blue paint, 25 small 1.5 inch colored circles, glue stick, glitter
Paint back of plate blue and let dry.
Fold circles in half, rub with glue, glitter it
Cut triangle from right side of plate and glue on as a tail on left side
Cut 2 small fins and glue on fish
Glue on eye
Start in middle of plate and glue on fish scales in rows-the folded side will face the mouth
Overlap scales just a bit, and put 4-5 in each row and decrease the amount of scales as you do each row

2.  W is For Worms-Sensory Letter Craft
Cut out a large brown W-you could use a grocery bag!
Set it out with a little wet cooked spaghetti, child scissors, a bowl of slightly thinned glue, and some “dirt”.
-Cut some of the pasta into “Worms”.
-Dip Worms into glue for a second and then drop them into the “dirt”.
-Arrange Worms onto the letter W and let dry.
-Sing your ABC’s pointing to the W when you get to it.
Math
1.  Count as high as you can and identify the foam numerals from 1-10 in your E-Day Bag.
2.  How Long is the Earthworm?
Parent fold a piece of white paper into 3 even horizontal sections.  Then draw a small worm face on the left side of each row.
Child dips their thumb in brown paint and stamps it aside the faces repeatedly, making their worm bodies as long as they’d like.  Allow to dry.
Count how many thumbprints long your 3 Worms are and parent prints that number by each worm.
Arts/Sciences
1.  WORM JAR
Purpose-To see how worms compost, dig tunnels, and mix soils.
Materials:
A quart size canning jar
A lid with holes
Dirt/garden soil/potting soil/lighter sand/mulch/hay/grass-ANY of these
Worms
First layer potting soil, garden soil, sand, mulch or whatever you have, and repeat the layers until the jar is full.
Next dig for worms and add them to the top of the jar.
Add some food for the worms to compost:  teeny tiny chopped carrots, celery, celery greens, apples, etc…
Slightly dampen the soil and put on lid.
Wrap a piece of dark paper or felt around the jar so the worms can work in darkness.
Every few days for the next several weeks check on the worm jar and see how your underground friends are doing——and if they are actually working.
Predict/observe the worms’ activities.

2.  Frog Life Cycle Craft
Fold a paper plate into 4 sections.  Label each section with  a number and word:  1-eggs, 2-tadpole, 3-froglet, 4-frog.
Color or paint the outside rim green, if desired.  Let dry.
Talk about the features of the frog for each section of the plate.
Shape play doh eggs, etc…and lay in each section of the plate.
Math
1.  Count as high as you can and identify the foam numerals from 1-10 in your E-Day Bag.
2.  Five Green and Speckled Frogs
After your handprint frog from below dries, use it to lay your play doh speckles onto.
Roll dice and make the number of speckles for the frog’s tummy shown on the dice with green play dough.  Repeat rolling dice.
Practice repeating the rhyme and predict what number comes next.
Arts/Sciences
1.  Edible Frog
Use 2 apple slices, 2 grapes, 2 raisins, a red gummy worm, and peanut butter to create this yummy snack.
2.  Handprint Frog
Let your child paint the palm of their hand and fingers green.  Help them press their hand on white paper to get a full handprint.  Let dry.  Let your child free paint elsewhere while you cut the details-eyes, mouth, tongue.  Let your child curl the tongue around a pencil and use a glue stick to add the features to the handprint.
Use your handprint frog for the math activity #2 from above.

2.  Pond Sensory Bag
Use a small ziploc baggy with hair gel, green food coloring and glitter.  Tape shut.   Practice writing ABC’s on the bag with finger.
 
3.  What lives in a pond?
Math
1.  Count as high as you can and identify the foam numerals from 1-10 in your E-Day Bag.
2.  One to one correspondence 
Use:  dice, glass gems (from Simple Pond Sensory Play below), or use pompoms, and an egg carton/ice cube tray.
Roll a dice and place that many gems in the egg carton, counting each gem. Repeat rolling dice and counting more gems.
3.  Count the items in your pond below.
Arts/Sciences
1.  Simple Pond Sensory Play
Use a shallow bin and fill with ‘pond life’ toys and water.  Add plastic turtles, frogs, fish, snakes, worms, clear glass gems (dollar store), moss, dragonflies, etc…and set bin on towels for inside play.  Tell stories about your pond while you play.
 
2.  Dragonfly Stick Craft
Need-  coffee filters, 5” stick, watercolors, yarn/twine
Paint 2 coffee filters and set aside to dry. (They flap easily in wind for fun play.)
Wrap twine around stick to make dragonflies thorax.  Tie knot at end to secure.
Glue a craft gem at end of stick for dragonflies’ head.
Cut out 4 wings from filters and glue to stick.
Once dry, hang up dragonfly or play with it outside!
